On the occasion of Diwali, 50 followers of the Sanatan Dharma officially joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
The ceremony was held on Monday (October 20) at BNP’s Chairperson Office in Gulshan, where the new members were warmly welcomed into the party.
During the event, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was presented with floral greetings.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We want to move forward carrying the spirit of ’71 and ’24. We have always stood by you, we stand with you now, and we will continue to do so.”
He added, “Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians fought together for nine months during the liberation war. I am a freedom fighter, and no one’s contribution is lesser than another’s. There are attempts to create division among people. On August 5, I envisioned a new Bangladesh, and I want us all to move forward united in that dream.”
He also criticized some foreign media and the country for spreading false propaganda, urging the current government and law enforcement agencies not to put minorities at risk.
Prominent Hindu community leaders present at the event included Somnath De, Kapil Krishna Mondal, Somen Saha, and Bizon Kanti Sarkar — BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member and Chairman of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Welfare Front.
