Senior Joint Secretary of BNP, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, has expressed deep concern over the series of recent fires occurring across the country. He stated that the consecutive incidents have sparked fears among the public of a possible large-scale sabotage.
“People are questioning the causes behind these repeated fires. While isolated incidents can happen, when such events occur one after another, it clearly indicates the involvement of a sinister hand,” Rizvi said during a conversation with journalists on Monday (October 20) in Fulmuri village of Munshirhat Union, Chauddagram, Comilla, where he visited the blind singer Jahangir Alam.
Rizvi also alleged that both domestic and foreign forces are actively working to portray Bangladesh as unstable and to demonstrate that a government without Sheikh Hasina cannot sustain. He warned that these fires and disturbances will not hinder the upcoming February elections, but the government must remain vigilant.
Regarding the Proportional Representation (PR) system, Rizvi commented, “People don’t understand PR, and frankly, we don’t either. Those advocating PR now never mentioned it one, two, or five years ago. Why are they trying to confuse people now? Voters know they will choose candidates they prefer. Recognizing who will represent their area is important. PR is just a way to mislead and distract the public, and people will never accept it.”
Present during the visit were BNP Central Employment Secretary Haji Ayachin, Comilla Divisional Organizational Secretary Professor Selim, coordinator of Amra BNP family Atiqur Rahman Ruman, Member Secretary and agriculturist Moksedul Momin Mithun, General Secretary of Comilla South District BNP Ashiqur Rahman Wasim, Senior Vice President Amiruzzaman, Senior Joint General Secretary of South District BNP and President of Chauddagram Upazila BNP Kamrul Huda, former Member Secretary of South District BNP Jasim Uddin, and President of Comilla City BNP Udbatul Bari Abu, among others.
