Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organizer for the southern region of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), has voiced strong dissatisfaction regarding the lack of legal action against leaders and activists of the former ruling party, the Awami League.
On Thursday, May 8, Hasnat shared a post on his verified Facebook account expressing his frustration. In the post, he wrote:
“Killers are being allowed to flee the country safely. Even when police arrest suspects, courts grant them bail. State facilities are being used to provide passports to figures like Shirin Sharmin right at their homes. The second tribunal was supposed to start in January, but it’s now May and nothing has begun. And yet you talk about holding the Awami League accountable? What justice or reforms have actually been implemented under this interim government?”
His comments come shortly after former President Abdul Hamid — who served under the Awami League government — left the country, nine months after its fall due to a student-led uprising.
According to sources at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Abdul Hamid departed for Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG340 at 3:05 AM on Wednesday night. He reportedly arrived at the airport around 11 PM and, after clearing immigration, boarded the flight alone, with no close associates accompanying him.
