Today, the 25th of Boishakh, marks the 164th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. To commemorate the occasion, various cultural organizations including the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, and Chhayanaut have organized a range of vibrant events.

At the historic Rabindra Kuthibari in Shilaidaha, Kushtia, a three-day festival titled “Rabindranath and Bangladesh” has begun. The program is organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, with support from Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and managed by the Kushtia district administration. The festival, running through Saturday, features recitation, solo musical performances, and group dance. Among the performers are reciters Safiul Alam and Bannya, singers Suma Rani Roy and Bulbul Islam, along with dancers from the Shilpakala Academy.

Chhayanaut has also organized a two-day Rabindra Festival, taking place today and tomorrow (Friday) at 6:30 PM at the Chhayanaut Auditorium. The program includes solo and choral songs, dance, and recitation. In addition to Chhayanaut performers, invited artists and groups will also participate. The event is open to all and will be livestreamed on Chhayanaut’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

As part of the day’s celebration, theatre troupe Swapnodol will stage the play Helen Keller at 7 PM at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. The play explores how Rabindranath’s philosophy became a source of inspiration in Helen Keller’s life struggles. Later at 11 PM, Bangladesh Television (BTV) will broadcast Swapnodol’s poetic drama Chitrangada as a special Rabindra Jayanti presentation.
