Gold prices in the domestic market have reached a new historic high as the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced another price hike. The price of 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 4,199 per bhori, setting the new rate at Tk 232,055 per bhori, the highest ever in the country.

BAJUS announced the decision in a notice issued late Monday (January 12). The new prices will come into effect from Tuesday (January 13).

According to the notice, the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) has risen in the local market. Considering the overall situation, BAJUS decided to revise gold prices accordingly.

Under the new rates, one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will cost Tk 232,055. The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 221,499 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 189,890 per bhori. Gold made under the traditional method has been priced at Tk 156,881 per bhori.

BAJUS also stated that a government-mandated 5 percent VAT and a minimum 6 percent making charge set by BAJUS must be added to the selling price. However, making charges may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewelry.

At the same time, silver prices have also been increased. The price of 22-carat silver has gone up by Tk 408 per bhori to Tk 5,949. The price of 21-carat silver has been fixed at Tk 5,715 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk 4,899 per bhori, and traditional silver at Tk 3,674 per bhori.
