Following three consecutive days of sit-in protests in front of the Chief Adviser’s residence on Jamuna Road, the government has accepted all four demands raised by students of Jagannath University.

On Friday (May 16) at 7:30 PM, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim officially announced the decision in the presence of the UGC Chairman. He stated, “The demands of our students have been accepted. The first demand regarding increased operational budget for the university has been approved. Additionally, to address the housing crisis, a decision has been made to construct temporary dormitories, and the work will begin soon. The development of the second campus has already started and will continue as a top priority.”

UGC Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz said, “We have been working on this all day. The UGC is like a family, and we believe we can solve these issues collectively. We are committed to implementing all your demands and will continue working together.”

At the event, the UGC Chairman symbolically ended the student hunger strike by offering water to the protesting students.

Professor Dr. Roish Uddin, General Secretary of the Jagannath University Teachers’ Association, added, “Our fourth demand was to take action against those involved in the attack on students. The police have expressed regret over the incident and assured that action will be taken against those responsible within seven days. Besides this, the government has accepted all our demands.”
