Former U.S. President Donald Trump is facing intense criticism over his decision to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet, reportedly worth $400 million, as a gift from the Qatari royal family. The move has sparked a heated debate in Washington over constitutional violations, potential corruption, and national security risks.

Former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton strongly criticized the decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “No one gives away a $400 million airplane for free—there are always expectations in return.” She urged that the matter be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.

According to reports, the Qatari royal family has offered Trump the aircraft for his use. Trump is said to be considering using it as a replacement for Air Force One during any future presidency, and even keeping it for personal use after leaving office. This revelation has alarmed lawmakers on Capitol Hill, particularly among Democrats.

Several Democratic members of Congress have condemned the move, calling it a potential act of corruption. A group of nine Democratic senators has urged the Pentagon to investigate the proposed gift and to clarify what role, if any, the Department of Defense might play in facilitating it.

Republican lawmakers have also expressed discomfort. Senator Todd Young stated, “I find this deeply troubling,” pointing to serious national security concerns, including the potential presence of surveillance devices or the aircraft failing to meet U.S. security standards.

Senator Ted Cruz echoed these worries in an interview with CNBC, warning that such a gift could pose significant espionage and surveillance threats to the United States.

Furthermore, the U.S. Constitution prohibits government officials from accepting gifts from foreign kings, princes, or states without congressional approval—a clause that casts further doubt on the legality of Trump’s decision.

The controversy continues to unfold, raising questions not just about Trump’s actions, but also about broader issues of foreign influence, executive ethics, and national security.
