Ikramul Hasan Shakil has become the seventh Bangladeshi to successfully summit Mount Everest. Remarkably, he reached the world’s highest peak on foot after an 84-day journey that began from Cox’s Bazar.

On Monday, May 19, Shakil raised the Bangladeshi flag at the summit of Mount Everest, marking the completion of his expedition.

Later that day, a post on his official Facebook page from his expedition coordinators confirmed the news, stating, “Just received confirmation—Shakil has summited and is in good health. He has descended to Camp 4. Due to limited network access, further details are currently unavailable.”

Shakil began his journey on February 25 from Inani Beach in Cox’s Bazar, as part of the “Sea to Summit” expedition. His goal was to walk from the shores of the Bay of Bengal all the way to the top of the world.

A trained mountaineer, Ikramul Hasan Shakil received both basic and advanced climbing training from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in India. Prior to this feat, he had already summited several challenging Himalayan peaks, including Kyajo Ri, Draupadi Ka Danda II, Himlung, and Dolma Khang.

In 2023, Shakil gained national and international recognition after he trekked the entire 1,700-kilometer Great Himalaya Trail in Nepal, which stretches across the eastern to the western regions of the country.
