The European Union (EU) and the United Kingdom have reached a new temporary agreement focusing on defense and security, fisheries, and youth mobility.
According to a report by Reuters on Monday (May 19), EU officials have received a draft of the agreement in Brussels, which is now awaiting approval from the 27 member states. The deal will allow British companies to participate in major EU defense projects.
EU officials have stated that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa are expected to finalize the deal on Monday.
An EU diplomat confirmed that both sides have agreed on various drafts and parallel issues, and the formal approval process is underway with no expected complications.
The report also mentions that the UK is preparing to restore its post-Brexit relationship, focusing on close cooperation in trade and defense to enhance security and economic growth in Europe.
