India has launched a widespread boycott of Turkish products in response to Turkey’s open support for Pakistan over the Kashmir conflict. From local grocery stores to major online fashion platforms, Indian retailers and consumers are removing Turkish goods from their shelves and websites.

According to a report published by Pakistan’s Geo News on Monday (May 19), the diplomatic tensions between India and Turkey have prompted a range of Indian businesses to enforce a boycott of Turkish imports. The affected products include chocolates, coffee, jams, cosmetics, and clothing.

The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF), which supplies goods to over 13 million small retail stores across India, announced an indefinite boycott of all Turkish-origin products. This move is expected to heavily impact sales of Turkish snacks, skincare items, and packaged foods.

Leading e-commerce platforms like Walmart-backed Flipkart and Reliance-owned sites have removed popular Turkish fashion brands such as Trendyol, LC Waikiki, and Mavi. Flipkart’s fashion site Myntra and Reliance’s AJIO are reportedly showing many Turkish products as “out of stock” or have taken them down entirely, citing “national interest” as the reason.

Although trade between India and Turkey is valued at around $2.7 billion annually, the boycott could significantly impact public sentiment and business relations. Last year alone, India imported around $81 million worth of apparel and $60 million in apples from Turkey.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has also called for a ban on Turkish apple imports. Meanwhile, Flipkart has suspended bookings for flights, hotels, and holiday packages to Turkey, again citing support for national sovereignty.

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has canceled security clearance for Turkey-based ground handling company Celebi, and many Indian travelers are reportedly canceling trips to Turkey. Air India is also lobbying to end its partnership with Turkish Airlines and Indigo.

The sweeping measures reflect India’s sharp diplomatic and economic response to Turkey’s alignment with Pakistan on a highly sensitive geopolitical issue.
