The BNP has sent a detailed letter to Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus addressing the current political situation, the humanitarian corridor, reforms, justice, the reconstitution of the Election Commission, and the roadmap for upcoming elections.

The letter, signed by BNP’s National Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, was made public on Saturday, May 24.

In the letter, the BNP highlights that after nearly 16 years of anti-fascist democratic movements, the bloody student uprising of July-August 2024 successfully freed Bangladesh from fascism. In line with the people’s aspirations and the uprising’s goals, a non-partisan, neutral interim government was formed under the leadership of the Chief Adviser.

However, the BNP raises serious questions about how much of the public’s expectations have been fulfilled in the past nine and a half months since the fall of fascism. They express concern over emerging cracks within the anti-fascist national alliance, warning that maintaining this unity is crucial for building a strong democratic Bangladesh. The BNP stresses that the interim government must remain strictly neutral and avoid any political advantage by any faction.

The letter also urges careful consideration of whether the government’s actions regarding the humanitarian corridor and the Chittagong port truly protect national interests. It calls for the removal of controversial advisers whose statements and actions are damaging the government’s image.

Regarding the Election Commission, the BNP notes that although the commission was formed through a search committee including all parties, certain partisan actions—such as the siege of the commission demanding local government elections—are problematic and undermine the government’s credibility.

On the national election, the BNP emphasizes the urgent need to announce a clear roadmap to hold a free, fair, and neutral election by the end of this year. They state this should be the top priority of the interim government.

In conclusion, the BNP appeals to the government to manage the country on a consensual basis to maintain stability, law and order, protect the purchasing power of citizens, and promote dynamic investment and trade.
