Former Food Minister Kamrul Islam sustained a head injury and was bleeding after slipping and falling in the detention toilet at the court while appearing for a hearing in an Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) case. He was given initial medical treatment and later sent to the prison hospital.
On Monday morning (May 26), Kamrul Islam was brought from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj to the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court for a hearing. While using the detention toilet to relieve himself, he suddenly felt dizzy, slipped, and fell, injuring the back of his head and causing bleeding. Police personnel on duty provided immediate first aid by bandaging his wound.
His lawyer, Nasim Mahmud, stated that Kamrul Islam has been suffering from several health issues, including stomach cancer, which has weakened his body significantly. Due to his frailty, he slipped and got injured. After initial treatment, he was transferred to the Keraniganj prison hospital for further care.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Tariq Zobayer confirmed that Kamrul Islam is a patient with high blood pressure. He fainted and fell in the toilet, sustaining head injuries. With the court’s permission, he received prompt medical attention before being sent to the prison hospital.
Since the case is still under investigation, Kamrul Islam was not produced in court but was taken back to prison after signing in the detention area.
