Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, has offered an unconditional apology to everyone. Speaking at a press conference held on Tuesday (May 27) at the Muktijoddha Hall of the Diploma Engineers Institute in Kakrail, Dhaka, following the acquittal of Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam from the death sentence in a war crimes case, he expressed this sentiment.
Dr. Shafiqur said, “As a party, we do not claim to be above mistakes. For any harm caused by any member or the party itself, I sincerely ask for forgiveness from everyone. Please forgive us.”
He urged forgiveness even if anyone had been hurt by their actions or conduct.
At the conference, Shafiqur remarked, “This verdict proves that truth cannot be suppressed; like light breaking through clouds, truth eventually shines.”
He noted that ATM Azharul Islam, a persecuted leader and victim of fascist oppression, has been freed after a long imprisonment by the grace of Allah following the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division verdict.
Referring to the nation’s many unresolved burning issues, Jamaat’s Amir called on all political parties and stakeholders to prioritize the people’s interests above all.
Promising change, he said, “By Allah’s will and with the support of the people, if entrusted with the responsibility to serve the country, we vow to end the politics of revenge and discrimination. We will strive wholeheartedly to eliminate inequality from society, working hand in hand with the public.”
