In a shocking incident in broad daylight, Sheikh Farhad Hossain, former general secretary of the Tank Lorry Owners’ Association and a member of the Awami League’s Ward No. 7 unit in Khulna, was shot by unidentified assailants. The attack took place around 4 PM on Tuesday (May 27) on Jamuna Road under Khalishpur Police Station in Khulna city. Alongside Farhad, two others were also injured in the shooting.
According to reports, Farhad was leaving his residence in his private vehicle for work when a group of masked attackers intercepted him using a truck to block the road. Six unknown assailants opened indiscriminate fire at the vehicle. Farhad sustained a bullet wound to his left ear, while his driver, Md. Monirul Islam, was shot in the left arm, and his manager, Md. Sohel, was hit in the back.
The attackers quickly fled the scene on motorcycles following the assault.
Local residents rushed the injured to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where they are currently being treated in wards 11 and 12 of the surgery department.
Police Investigation Underway
Khalishpur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed that, based on eyewitness accounts, the attackers were wearing masks and fired multiple rounds. The injured victims were found with bullet wounds to the chest, back, and neck. A police investigation is already underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
This incident has caused significant concern among locals and highlights growing security concerns in the city.
