Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of BNP, said, “We demanded a clear roadmap, but ten months have passed and instead of a definite plan, discussions have revolved around everything else.”
He added, “This avoidance raises serious questions about the interim government’s sincerity. Our acting chairman has clearly stated that elections must be held in December.”
On Wednesday evening (May 28), Fakhrul shared a photo from a joint rally organized by Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chatra Dal in Nayapaltan on his verified Facebook page, along with this statement.
Fakhrul wrote, “From day one, we have not only supported the caretaker government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus but actively cooperated. We have participated in every reform-related meeting, submitted proposals, and whenever there was disagreement, we presented clear and reasoned arguments.”
He emphasized, “Reform is an ongoing process. Nowhere in the world does everything stop in the name of reform. In any democratic country, the process of holding elections to form a people’s parliament never halts due to reform.”
Fakhrul further said, “We have emerged from a governance system that was not only authoritarian but also autocratic. Now, the people of Bangladesh are ready for a new parliament elected by them and representing them.”
He added, “Such a parliament will speak on behalf of the nation regarding the country’s development, institutional reforms, and human rights.”
