Sarjis Alam, the Northern Regional Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has questioned why Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has not been arrested yet. In a Facebook post from his verified account on Thursday (May 29), he expressed strong criticism of the interim government’s inaction.
In his post, Sarjis referred to the Jatiya Party as a close ally of the Awami League, writing:
“The Jatiya Party has long enjoyed the privileges of being in the opposition while actually legitimizing the Awami League’s hold on power. Before every election, they put on a show of resistance, only for GM Quader to travel to India at the last minute, strike secret deals, and return to play the role of a fake opposition.”
Directing his frustration at the authorities, he added:
“Why is GM Quader still walking free? Does the government need to be pushed before taking any action? Or will students and citizens have to take to the streets again to get things done?”
In response to the accusations, GM Quader told reporters on Thursday afternoon at his residence, “The Sky View,” in Senpara, Rangpur, that such claims are baseless.
“Those calling us collaborators clearly don’t understand the reality of Bangladeshi politics. It’s easy to throw around such terms, but our actions speak louder,” he said.
He added, “We have never been anyone’s ally. On the contrary, whenever the Awami League has done something wrong, we have protested more strongly than any other party. We’ve consistently been among the most vocal critics.”
