Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has stated that his party was never an ally or associate of any political force. Instead, the party has always followed its own path in politics. However, he claimed that at various times, they were forced into difficult positions under what he described as a “fascist” political environment.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday (May 29) at his residence “The Sky View” in Senpara, Rangpur, GM Quader addressed recent criticisms and clarified his party’s stance.

“Those calling us collaborators don’t fully understand the political reality of Bangladesh,” said Quader. “It’s easy to throw around labels, but in truth, we’ve often been the loudest and most consistent voice against the wrongdoings of the ruling Awami League — even more so than many other parties.”

He went on to criticize the current administration, saying, “The Chief Advisor and his close young leadership have sharply divided the country’s political landscape. This division is deepening, and a state of increasing confrontation is developing. I fear this could lead to major political conflict in the near future.”

Quader also accused the Chief Advisor of politically sidelining the Jatiya Party. “Despite being a legally registered political party with no shortcomings, we are being denied recognition. Our activists are being detained, harassed, and systematically excluded from the political process. This is a clear attempt at political marginalization through divisive tactics.”

Pointing toward the rise of a new, government-backed political group — a veiled reference to the National Citizen Party (NCP) — he said, “This party doesn’t even have formal registration, yet they’re receiving full state support. A fair election is impossible when the ruling power creates its own party and gives it priority across the board. A truly level playing field cannot exist in such conditions.”

Quader also touched on recent border tensions involving forced pushbacks, stating, “The push-in incidents at the border reveal just how weak and ineffective this government really is. These are state responsibilities — we in the opposition have no control over such matters.”

Several party leaders, including Presidium Member SM Yasir, District Convenor Azmal Hossain Lebu, and Organizational Secretary Hasanuzzaman Nazim, were present at the briefing.

GM Quader arrived in Rangpur earlier in the day for a four-day tour. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka on Sunday after completing party and personal engagements.
