Dr. Zubaida Rahman, spouse of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, emphasized that raising awareness about heart disease is crucial for maintaining good health. She stated that preventive measures significantly reduce the risk of developing heart conditions and are also applicable for those already affected by heart disease. Timely intervention can lower the chances of a recurrence.
She made these remarks as the chief guest—through a speech read on her behalf—at a free medical camp and heart disease awareness program held on Friday (May 30) at the Dattabari Asthma Care Center in Bogura city. The event was organized by the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of late President Ziaur Rahman.
Her speech was delivered by Dr. A.N.M. Monowarul Kader Bitu, Assistant Professor at the Bangladesh Medical University (PG Hospital).
Earlier in the day, Bogura District BNP held various programs in observance of the martyrdom anniversary. At 7:30 a.m., black flags were hoisted and party flags were lowered to half-mast at the district BNP office on Nawabbari Road. At 8:30 a.m., party leaders and activists placed floral tributes at a portrait of President Ziaur Rahman. Around 10:00 a.m., district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha inaugurated the free medical camp at the Dattabari Asthma Care Center.
The event was attended by BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council Member Helaluzzaman Talukder Lalu, Acting General Secretary of the district BNP Mosharraf Hossain, President of Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) Bogura Chapter Dr. Shah Md. Shahjahan Ali, Dr. Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, Dr. Azfarul Habib Roz, BNP Central Executive Committee Member VP Saiful Islam, and leaders including Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, Mir Shahe Alam, Shahid Un Nabi Salam, and KM Khairul Bashar.
Following Friday prayers, Bogura BNP organized a special prayer session at the Baitur Rahman Central Mosque for the late president. At 2:00 p.m., the district Jubo Dal (BNP’s youth wing) distributed food among the poor and underprivileged in front of the BNP office.
District BNP President and Acting General Secretary, along with Jubo Dal President Jahangir Alam and General Secretary Abu Hasan, were present at the distribution event. Later, Bogura Chhatra Dal (student wing) also distributed food among orphans at a local madrasa in the Khandar area. Chhatra Dal President Habibur Rashid Sandhan, General Secretary M.R. Hasan Palash, and leaders from various units were also present.
At the end of the program, copies of Dr. Zubaida Rahman’s booklet “Heart Disease Prevention Guide” were distributed among attendees.
