Alamgir Rahman Nayon, organizer of the National Citizens Party (NCP) in Rangpur, has filed a complaint seeking legal action against 18 leaders and activists of the Jatiya Party and its affiliates, including Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and Co-Chairman and former Rangpur mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostofa.
On Saturday night (May 31), Alamgir Rahman Nayon submitted a written complaint to the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station, Ataur Rahman, in Rangpur city. Afterward, he spoke to the media.
Kotwali OC Ataur Rahman confirmed the receipt of the complaint and said that legal action will be taken after investigation.
According to the complaint, on Thursday night around 8 PM, a group of students participating in an anti-discrimination movement organized a peaceful protest march from Rangpur Press Club demanding the arrest of GM Quader, described as a “fascist’s ally,” and opposing the Jatiya Party’s activities. While marching towards Senpara Chourasta via Grand Hotel Mor, supporters of GM Quader allegedly attacked the procession under his orders, injuring four activists.
Alamgir Rahman Nayon stated that Jatiya Party leaders attacked the peaceful protest against GM Quader’s visit, resulting in injuries to four protesters. When they tried to file a case at the police station, their complaint was initially not accepted, but later a written complaint was recorded. He urged the authorities to swiftly bring those responsible to justice.
The complaint names 18 individuals including GM Quader, Mostafizar Rahman Mostofa, Presidium member SM Yasir, District Committee General Secretary Haji A. Razzak, Senior Vice President of the Metropolitan Committee Lokman Hossain, Central Organizational Secretary Mezbahaul Islam Milan Chowdhury, Metropolitan Joint General Secretary Fuji Belal, Central Chhatra Samaj Secretary Arif Ali, Metropolitan Youth Federation General Secretary Yusuf Ahmed, Metropolitan Workers’ Party President Raju Ahmed, Metropolitan Volunteer Party President Faruk Mondal, Metropolitan Chhatra Samaj General Secretary Aminul Islam, District Committee President Ariful Islam, Vice President Moin, Metropolitan Youth Federation General Secretary Hira, District Jatiya Party Convener Azmal Hossain Lebu, Member Zulfikar Aziz Khan Bhutto, and Metropolitan Chhatra Samaj Member Nahid Hasan Shawon. The complaint also includes 80-90 unnamed individuals as accused.
