Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, over 377,597 MPO-listed teachers and staff across Bangladesh are set to receive a welcome boost. The Ministry of Education has approved the proposal for their festival allowance, and the funds are expected to be deposited into their bank accounts by Monday, June 2.

Among the beneficiaries, 290,550 are from school-level institutions and 87,047 from colleges. Following approval, the proposal was sent to the office of the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer. A government order (GO) regarding the allowance was issued on May 29, along with instructions to process it through the iBAS++ system. Officials are optimistic that the payments will be disbursed smoothly and on time.

Earlier, on May 26, a proposal to increase the festival allowance for MPO-listed teachers of non-government schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutions was submitted to the Ministry of Education. As per the new directive, teachers will now receive 50% of their basic monthly salary as festival allowance—up from the previous 25%. This revised rate will be effective from the date of the administrative order’s issuance.

However, the allowance for non-teaching staff has not been increased, causing some dissatisfaction among them. The enhanced allowance will apply to teachers under both the Secondary and Higher Education Division and the Technical and Madrasa Education Division of the Ministry of Education.
