Popular messaging app WhatsApp will no longer work on many older Android and iPhone devices starting today. Meta, the company behind WhatsApp, has announced that new security and software policies have come into effect from June 1.

According to the new rules, WhatsApp can only be used on iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later and Android devices with version 5.1 or higher. Devices that don’t meet these minimum requirements will lose access to the app.

Phones affected include iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. Reports also suggest that iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE may soon lose WhatsApp support as well.

If these devices are updated to iOS 15.8.4, WhatsApp will continue to work for now. However, when future major software updates are released and the devices cannot support them, WhatsApp will stop functioning on those phones.

Experts recommend that users with older phones either upgrade to a newer device or keep their software updated as much as possible to continue using WhatsApp.

This decision applies globally, including users in Bangladesh and all other countries.
