Abul Nasar Muhammad Rahmatullah, a member of the BNP’s National Executive Committee, has said that even after nine and a half months, the country has yet to regain political stability. He emphasized that a truly elected and democratic government is the only way to move the nation forward.

“To restore stability and ensure progress, the government must immediately announce a clear roadmap for a fair and participatory national election,” Rahmatullah stated.

He made these remarks on Monday (June 3) while distributing meat to hawkers at the Barishal Hawkers’ Union office in celebration of Eid-ul-Azha. He was also speaking at the concluding day of a four-day program held at the field of Char Aicha AR Khan Secondary School, organized in memory of BNP founder and former President Shaheed Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of his 44th martyrdom anniversary. The event was hosted by the Char Kawa Union BNP and its affiliated bodies under Barishal Sadar Upazila.

Rahmatullah added, “Those who tried to erase Ziaur Rahman from history have themselves faded into obscurity. Zia remains deeply rooted in the hearts of the people through his actions and ideals.”

He further stated, “Ziaur Rahman not only risked his life to declare the country’s independence but also, through the November 7, 1975, sepoy-people uprising, restored the democratic politics and press freedom that had been banned under Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s regime.”

The event was presided over by Md. Nesar Jomaddar, President of the Barishal Press Union, and conducted by Ripon, General Secretary of the Hawkers’ Union.

Also present were Zahidur Rahman Ripon, a member of the city BNP; Master Mizanur Rahman, President of the city unit of the Workers’ Welfare Federation; Tariq Sulaiman, Senior Joint Convener of the City Volunteer Team; Joint Convener Milon Chowdhury; Obaidur Islam Uzzal, Vice President of the City Chhatra Dal; Joint General Secretary Dayan Ishti; and Nazmus Sakib, Member Secretary of the City Independence Forum.

Another program was held at Char Aicha Ward No. 5, presided over by former UP member Syed Atikur Rahman Shahtaz. Attendees included District Chhatra Dal Vice Presidents Asif Al Mamun and Elias Ahmed, former Union Volunteer Team President Kazi Nasir Uddin, former Union Krishak Dal Convener Saleh Ahmed Sohel, and former Joint Convener Rahat Talukder.
