A leader of the BNP’s youth wing, Jubo Dal, has been expelled in Brahmanbaria’s Bijoynagar upazila for allegedly assisting a Jubo League leader in evading police arrest. The expelled leader, Mizanur Rahman, was the General Secretary of the Jubo Dal’s Budhanti Union unit under the upazila.
On Monday (June 2), Mizanur was officially expelled from the organization for violating party discipline. The decision was announced in a press release signed by District Jubo Dal Office Secretary Md. Al Amin.
The press release, issued on official party letterhead, stated that Mizanur Rahman was removed from all organizational responsibilities on the instructions of Brahmanbaria District Jubo Dal President Shamim Molla and General Secretary Yasin Mahmud due to his involvement in activities contrary to party discipline. Following the incident, Mizanur had initially been served a show-cause notice, which expired on Saturday (May 31).
According to police and local sources, police attempted to arrest Shohag Mia, Joint General Secretary of Budhanti Union Jubo League, around 11 PM on May 15 at a shop owned by Yunus Mia in the local bus stand area. The operation was led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Suman Chandra Das of the Islampur Police Outpost. During the raid, Mizanur Rahman allegedly helped Shohag Mia escape from the scene.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV at the shop and later circulated widely on social media and news platforms.
On May 17, SI Suman Chandra Das filed a case at Bijoynagar Police Station naming Mizanur Rahman and three others, along with several unidentified individuals, for aiding in the escape.
District Jubo Dal President Shamim Molla confirmed the disciplinary action, saying, “Acting BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has instructed that any member involved in misconduct will face strict organizational consequences. Based on this directive, Mizanur Rahman was issued a show-cause notice. After reviewing evidence and consulting central leaders, he has now been expelled.”
He added, “Anyone involved in activities that violate party discipline will face similar action if there is clear proof against them.”
Bijoynagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahidul Islam stated that Mizanur Rahman is currently out on bail granted by the Brahmanbaria court in the case filed for aiding a fugitive. He also mentioned that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused individuals.
