Police have detained four more individuals in connection with the supply of fabric for uniforms allegedly made for the banned group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) in Chattogram. Among those detained is Tariqul Islam, Managing Director (MD) of Well Fabrics, and brother of Abduch Salam, a former Member of Parliament and a suspended leader of the Awami League.
The arrests took place on Monday night (June 2) during a raid in the Kalurghat BSCIC industrial area under Chandgaon Police Station.
The other three detainees are company officials Touhidul Islam, Jamalul Islam, and Md. Atikur Rahman. According to police, the group was allegedly involved in supplying fabric for KNF’s uniforms.
Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aftab Uddin said the four were taken into custody for questioning, along with rolls of fabric found in a vehicle.
Well Composite Knit Ltd. is a sister concern of the Well Group, owned by the Salam family. Abduch Salam, the group’s founding chairman, was also the treasurer of the Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League.
He served as the Chairman of the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) for nine years during the tenure of the Awami League government. Most recently, he was elected as an independent Member of Parliament from the Chattogram-8 constituency in the 2024 elections.
OC Aftab Uddin stated that the raid was conducted after evidence emerged linking the factory to the production of KNF uniforms.
