Ali Riaz, Co-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, stated that the second round of meetings with political parties is being held not individually, but based on collective agreement on unresolved issues.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (June 3) morning at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka during the start of the second phase of discussions between the National Consensus Commission and political parties.
Ali Riaz said, “We aim to identify areas where all political parties can at least reach a minimum level of consensus and preserve those agreements. This is the main purpose of this dialogue.”
He added, “While some issues may achieve agreement, each party will maintain its own stance, party manifesto, and political intentions. However, if any party wishes to add additional views, they will have the opportunity to express them.”
Regarding the national charter, he said, “We want to include only those proposals in the national charter that have broad consensus. Instead of holding separate talks with each party, we have chosen a collective dialogue approach to allow mutual reasoning and analysis to help shift positions. With this in mind, we want to establish a framework.”
Representatives from 30 political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, NCP, AB Party, and Ganoshonghoti Andolon, attended the meeting.
