The interim government has saved nearly 46,000 crore taka that had been allocated for corrupt practices. On Wednesday morning (June 4), Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor, revealed this in a post on his verified Facebook page.
He stated, “Many ask what the government is actually doing. Today, I want to clarify with concrete examples.” After taking office, the interim government re-evaluated various development projects and found that most had been given unjustifiably high estimated costs. By cutting these excessive expenses, the government has saved a massive amount of public funds.
According to his data:
- The Road Transport and Highways Division’s expenditure was reduced by about 10,854 crore taka,
- The Bridges Division cut expenses by 7,537 crore taka,
- The Railway Ministry saved 8,367 crore taka,
- The Power Division reduced costs by 7,454 crore taka, and
- The Energy and Mineral Resources Division cut 12,425 crore taka.
In total, expenditure was reduced by approximately 46,308 crore taka across these five sectors.
Azad Majumdar added, “This money had essentially been allocated for looting, but the government has protected public funds. The savings have been used to clear all outstanding dues in the energy sector, bringing debts down to zero.”
