Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges and the Ministry of Railways, has warned that strict action will be taken immediately if buses charge fares above the approved rates.
He made the statement during a press briefing on Thursday (June 5) after inspecting the Sayedabad Bus Terminal in Dhaka.
“The price of fuel has been reduced, so there is no justification for charging extra fare in buses. Anyone found overcharging will face legal action,” he said.
He also assured that necessary measures have been taken to ensure a smooth Eid journey for travelers. “We are closely monitoring traffic congestion and irregularities, and action is being taken promptly whenever any violation is found,” he added.
Fauzul Kabir Khan mentioned a specific incident where a passenger was charged 100 taka more than the approved fare. The extra amount was refunded, and the responsible party was fined.
He further said, “There have been some general complaints about overcharging. However, any specific complaint will be addressed immediately.”
It is worth noting that on May 31, the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources issued a notification announcing fuel price adjustments for June. Diesel prices were reduced by 2 taka per liter, and petrol and octane prices were reduced by 3 taka per liter. Earlier in May, prices were also reduced by 1 taka per liter.
