The government has published advertisements in newspapers seeking candidates for the positions of Vice-Chancellor at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) and the University of Barishal (UoB).
The Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division issued the detailed notice on Thursday, June 5.
This initiative aims to enhance transparency and ensure merit-based appointments in the country’s higher education administration. Earlier, on June 4, education advisor C.R. Abrar announced that a board had been formed to eliminate irregularities in VC appointments, and advertisements would be published to find qualified candidates.
He further stated that interested candidates could apply, and after a proper selection process, the most suitable individuals would be appointed.
According to the notice, applicants for KUET must hold a PhD in engineering or technology, while for the University of Barishal, a PhD from any recognized university is acceptable.
Candidates must have at least 20 years of teaching experience, or alternatively, a minimum of 15 years of teaching experience along with 5 years of research experience after earning their PhD. Additionally, experience in university administration—such as academic planning, financial management, student welfare, and academic affairs—is required.
Leadership experience in key areas of university governance, management, and specialized educational planning is essential. Extra consideration will be given to candidates with academic or administrative experience at reputed foreign universities.
Candidates should also have a significant record of publications and research in international journals, with global recognition regarded as an added advantage.
The application deadline is June 26, 5 PM. Applications must include academic qualifications, experience, and necessary documents, addressed to the Senior Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education, Bangladesh Secretariat, Dhaka.
This new procedure is expected to bring positive changes to the country’s higher education sector by promoting transparency and allowing qualified and experienced individuals to lead the universities.
