On Thursday (June 5), Eid gifts were distributed among over 200 brave fighters who were injured or disabled during the July-August uprising. The gifts were handed out to fighters undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University, the National Institute of Ophthalmology, and the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute in Dhaka.
The program was jointly organized by the Altaf-Nisa Foundation and the July Martyrs’ Memorial Foundation.
Present at the event were injured and disabled fighters of the July movement, representatives from several European countries, distinguished social workers, professionals, well-wishers, and representatives from both foundations.
The organizers said the initiative was taken ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha as a recognition of a historic responsibility, to honor the wounded heroes, restore their dignity, and to showcase compassion and social solidarity.
On behalf of the Altaf-Nisa Foundation, it was stated that they feel proud and happy to present these modest gifts to those whose sacrifices, endurance, and blood led to the fall of the oppressive dictatorship that burdened the nation like a massive boulder. The foundation has always stood by the wounded fighters of the July uprising and will continue to do so. They maintain regular contact with the injured and are actively seeking opportunities for advanced medical treatment abroad by liaising with various international organizations.
From the July Martyrs’ Memorial Foundation, Managing Director Salauddin said that since its establishment, the foundation has been working tirelessly for the families of martyrs and all injured fighters. Despite various challenges, their utmost efforts continue and will do so in the future. They are moving forward with several major plans including rehabilitation of martyr and injured families and providing advanced treatment both at home and abroad.
An international representative attending the event expressed joy at meeting the frontline fighters of the July movement in person. They offered heartfelt prayers and blessings and conveyed Eid greetings to all Bangladeshis.
