Bangladesh women’s cricket team continued their losing streak, suffering an eight-wicket defeat to Australia in the final ODI of the series. After being bowled out for 172 runs, the visitors failed to defend their total, handing Australia a clean sweep in the three-match series.
Batting first in Brisbane on Wednesday, Bangladesh got off to a disastrous start, losing their first three batters for just 18 runs. Sharmin Akhter and Swarna Akter then steadied the innings with half-centuries, helping the team cross the 150-run mark.
Sharmin scored 50 off 93 balls, while Swarna contributed 54 off 71 deliveries. It was Swarna’s maiden half-century in ODI cricket.
Despite their efforts, Bangladesh could not build a competitive total. Losing wickets at regular intervals towards the end, they were bowled out for 172 in 49.5 overs.
For Australia, Megan Schutt was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets for 16 runs. Annabel Sutherland took two wickets.
In reply, Australia faced little difficulty chasing the target of 173 despite losing two wickets. Ellyse Perry remained unbeaten on 65, while Sutherland finished on 74 not out, guiding the hosts to victory with 164 balls to spare.
