In preparation for the holy festival of Eid-ul-Azha, Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury revealed that he has purchased a sacrificial cow for Tk 97,000.
He shared this information while speaking to reporters on Friday, June 6, after inspecting the Sadarghat launch terminal in Dhaka.
Responding to a journalist’s question about the cost of his sacrificial animal, he smiled and said, “Just 97 thousand taka.” He then laughed and added, “And even that isn’t entirely mine!”
During the visit, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also informed the media that most launch tickets are being sold at official prices and that, except for a few exceptions, most launches are departing on time. In the past five days, a total of 824 launches have left the terminal, carrying nearly 800,000 passengers to the southern region.
According to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), 28 launches departed from the terminal between 6 AM and 11 AM on Friday alone. On Thursday, a total of 137 launches left Dhaka with passengers.
Meanwhile, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said the government is making every effort to ensure a smooth Eid journey for holiday travelers. He made the remarks on Friday morning after inspecting the Mohakhali bus terminal in the capital.
He was accompanied by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz. After the visit, Ejaz told reporters that mobile courts operated by DNCC have been active at the terminal since early morning to ease passenger suffering during the Eid rush.
