Pakistan are usually seen wearing green jerseys in limited-overs cricket, reflecting the colour of their national flag. However, the team surprised fans by taking the field in pink jerseys for their third match of the ongoing tri-nation series against England. The change was not merely a fashion statement; it was part of a special initiative to raise awareness about breast cancer and support women undergoing treatment.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the initiative in collaboration with Pink Ribbon, an organisation dedicated to breast cancer awareness. The campaign aims to spread awareness about the disease and help women affected by it.

As part of the initiative, the PCB also announced plans to auction specially signed shirts featuring the signatures of Pakistan's ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and star batter Babar Azam. The proceeds are intended to support the treatment of women suffering from breast cancer.

Wearing special jerseys to promote awareness is not new in international cricket. Teams such as South Africa and Australia have previously worn pink jerseys or caps to highlight the importance of breast cancer awareness. Pakistan has also joined similar campaigns in recent years.

October is observed worldwide as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with various campaigns organised to educate people about the disease and encourage early detection. South Africa began its tradition of playing selected limited-overs matches in pink jerseys in 2013. A portion of the proceeds from these matches goes towards breast cancer treatment and awareness programmes.

Australia has also supported the cause through initiatives associated with its Boxing Day Test, including players wearing pink caps to promote awareness and raise funds.

The ongoing Pakistan-England match has been organised as part of the same awareness campaign. Players from both teams, along with match officials and commentators, were invited to wear pink ribbons in support of the initiative. The stumps used in the match also feature pink branding, while breast cancer awareness messages and promotional visuals are being displayed on the stadium's big screens and LED boards around the ground.

Meanwhile, Pakistan have made a strong start to the tri-nation series, defeating Sri Lanka and England in their first two matches. Both teams are scheduled to face Pakistan once again during the series.

England, on the other hand, are under pressure after losing their opening two matches. Despite scoring more than 400 runs against Sri Lanka, they suffered a defeat in a record-breaking encounter. They have also struggled to establish control with the bat in their ongoing match against Pakistan.

Ultimately, Pakistan's switch to pink is about much more than a change in team colours. It is a symbolic gesture aimed at raising breast cancer awareness, encouraging support for affected women and highlighting the importance of access to treatment.
