Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2–1 at Camp Nou in the first El Clásico of the year in La Liga, with Kylian Mbappé scoring twice to secure the victory.
On Sunday, October 25, Barcelona tried to put Real Madrid under pressure by controlling possession from the start. However, Mbappé gave Madrid the lead in the 41st minute.
Brazilian forward Raphinha subsequently equalised for Barcelona, but Mbappé scored his second goal in the 87th minute to seal the win. The strike also marked his 100th goal for Real Madrid.
Since joining the Spanish giants from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2024, Mbappé has reached the milestone in 116 appearances. He became the 24th player in Real Madrid’s history to score 100 goals for the club and the fourth-fastest to reach the landmark, behind legends including Alfredo Di Stéfano, Raúl and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo remains Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer, with 450 goals in 438 appearances.
Speaking after the match, Mbappé emphasised the importance of the team’s performance rather than his personal achievement.
“The real star of this match was the team, the entire team. We knew this had to be a team effort. Today, we gave everything,” he said.
He acknowledged that Real Madrid experienced difficult moments during the match but stressed that securing the victory and remaining in the title race were the priorities.
Mbappé added that although he loves scoring goals and helping his team, winning was the most important thing. He also urged his teammates to remain united if they hoped to achieve their ambitions this season.
Despite finishing as La Liga’s top scorer in each of his first two seasons at Real Madrid, Mbappé has yet to win a trophy with the club. Real Madrid lost the league title to Barcelona in both campaigns.
The French forward believes collective effort will be essential to changing that record, insisting that Real Madrid have the quality needed to succeed but must work together as a team.
