The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) new domestic tournament, the Domestic Three (D3) Trophy, witnessed intense competition among franchises for national team players at its auction on Monday, October 26, at the Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka.

Fast bowler Shoriful Islam emerged as one of the biggest attractions, with Citizens Bank securing him for 23 million points after a competitive bidding battle.

The inaugural edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin in December, with the competition starting in the T20 format. Unlike conventional franchise tournaments, the D3 Trophy uses a points-based system rather than direct monetary bidding to recruit players.

Taskin and Tanzid Also Attract Big Bids

Several other national team players attracted substantial interest from franchises.

  • Shoriful Islam: Citizens Bank — 23 million points.

  • Taskin Ahmed: Walton — 21 million points.

  • Tanzid Hasan Tamim: Fortune Group — 20 million points.

  • Sheikh Mehedi Hasan: Ace Bluestar — 15 million points.

  • Soumya Sarkar: Fortune Group — 7.5 million points.

Soumya attracted competition between Walton and Fortune Group before Fortune eventually secured the left-handed opener.

Five Categories for Players

The auction features five player categories, each with a designated base price in points. The system is designed to structure team selection and competition among participating franchises.

With several prominent Bangladesh internationals attracting high bids, the auction has generated considerable interest ahead of the tournament’s scheduled launch in December.
