Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is set to play in Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) for the first time, having been signed by Melbourne Renegades for the upcoming season.
Mustafizur has applied to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for a no-objection certificate (NOC) to participate in the Australian franchise tournament.
The development was confirmed on Monday, October 26, during the auction for Bangladesh’s domestic D3 tournament. BCB president Tamim Iqbal told the media that both Mustafizur and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain had requested NOCs. He also expressed a positive stance on granting the clearances.
Third Bangladeshi in the Big Bash
Mustafizur will become the third Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the BBL, following Shakib Al Hasan and Rishad Hossain.
Shakib was the first Bangladeshi to play in the tournament and also represented Melbourne Renegades.
Meanwhile, Rishad is set to return to Hobart Hurricanes after impressing during the previous season. The Bangladesh leg-spinner is expected to feature for the same franchise again in the upcoming edition.
Mustafizur’s potential participation would add another chapter to his international T20 career, with the left-arm pacer known for his variations and effective cutters. His participation will depend on the BCB’s approval of his NOC request.
