Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has launched a massive waste removal operation following Eid-ul-Adha animal sacrifices. The initiative is being carried out simultaneously across all 75 wards of the city, with around 10,000 sanitation workers deployed for the task. Additionally, a total of 2,079 vehicles are being used to support the operation.

On Saturday, June 7, after noon, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, visited various locations to inspect the ongoing waste removal activities.

While inaugurating the management operations at the Secondary Transfer Station (STS) near Kalabagan Shishu Park, he stated that clearing sacrificial waste from the city is a major challenge. If not removed in time, it can cause foul odors and spread disease. However, DNCC is confident it can complete the waste removal within 12 hours.

He assured that this year, the waste from Eid sacrifices will not disrupt the festive mood of city dwellers, as the entire cleanup will be completed by the end of the night.

Also present during the inspection were Md. Rezaul Maksud Jahedi, Secretary of the Local Government Division, and Md. Shahjahan Mia, Administrator of DNCC.

According to DNCC, the waste removal effort includes 207 dump trucks, 44 compactors, 39 container carriers, and 16 payloaders, among other equipment, working in coordination with the sanitation workforce.
