The District Detective Branch (DB) police have recovered the skeletal remains of a farmer, identified as Mahabbat Ali, 39, three years after he went missing in Madhabpur, Habiganj.

Police have arrested Shah Alam, 42, and his wife, Jahanara Begum, 34, of Ramnagar village on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The skeletal remains were recovered from a septic tank in Ramnagar village on Friday (October 30) afternoon.

According to police, Mahabbat Ali was the son of Bilat Ali and a resident of the same village. Alongside farming, he worked as an informant for the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police in the border area.

He went missing on July 30, 2023. Following his disappearance, his brother, Rusmat Ali, filed a case at Madhabpur Police Station.

After a lengthy investigation, the District Detective Branch arrested two suspects. Based on information provided by them, investigators recovered Mahabbat’s skeletal remains from a septic tank in Ramnagar village on Friday afternoon.

Phone Call Records Lead to Recovery

DB Sub-Inspector (SI) Saidur Rahman said Mahabbat Ali went missing on July 30, 2023, prompting his brother to file a case with the police.

Following a prolonged investigation, two people were arrested. Their statements subsequently led investigators to the septic tank where the remains were found.

He further said that records of a phone call provided a crucial lead, enabling police to recover Mahabbat’s skeletal remains nearly three years after his disappearance.
