Local BNP leaders and activists in Uzirpur, Barishal, have expressed anger after an alleged objectionable video involving BNP leader Md Atikul Islam Nannu Bali circulated on social media. Party members have demanded his expulsion, alleging that the incident has damaged the party’s image. However, Nannu Bali claims the video was generated using artificial intelligence (AI) and says he filed a general diary (GD) with the police two months ago over the incident.

Nannu Bali is the senior vice-president of Satla Union BNP. Recently, he was appointed as the guardian representative on the ad hoc managing committee of Satla Higher Secondary School in Uzirpur. However, allegations have also emerged that the committee was formed in violation of relevant regulations. A complaint regarding the matter has been submitted to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Barishal.

Local BNP leaders and activists alleged that Nannu Bali’s activities were damaging the party’s reputation. They argued that the party should not bear responsibility for an individual’s personal conduct and demanded organisational action against him, including his expulsion.

Asked about the circulation of the video, Nannu Bali said he did not know who had shared it. He maintained that the video was created using AI and claimed to have filed a GD with the police two months earlier. He also threatened to file a lawsuit against the journalist concerned if a report on the incident was published.

Satla Union BNP President Mezbah Uddin said he had seen the video some time ago and that senior leaders of the upazila BNP were also aware of the matter. However, no action had been taken despite the allegations. He added that he had previously raised the issue but received no response.

Uzirpur Upazila BNP Senior Vice-President SM Alauddin said he had not seen any such video. However, he stated that if a complaint was brought to the party’s attention, the matter would be discussed at the appropriate organisational forum before a decision was made.

Headteacher of the school, Sarbeshwar Biswas, said he had not seen the video. He added that the administration could take a decision if such allegations against Nannu Bali were formally raised.

Uzirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Rafiqul Islam said the incident was an old one. If Nannu Bali had filed a GD, it was being investigated. However, he could not confirm whether the GD had actually been registered.

Acting Chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Barishal, Professor Dr Md Jasim Uddin said the board generally does not approve committees involving individuals with such allegations. He explained that the school headteacher and the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) had submitted the names, which the board accepted without independent verification.

He added that the board could launch an investigation if a formal complaint was received. He also stressed that educational institutions should be managed by individuals of good standing and character.
