Youth are capable of bringing significant changes to a country, said National Parliament Chief Whip and Natore-2 (Sadar and Naldanga) constituency MP Advocate Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu.

He said young people had played leading roles in every major movement in the country’s history, including the Language Movement, the Liberation War, the anti-autocracy movement and the mass uprising of August 5. He added that the country’s development and democracy could be strengthened further by utilising the talent, hard work and courage of young people.

Dulu made the remarks as the chief guest at a rally and discussion meeting organised by the Natore district administration and the Department of Youth Development to mark National Youth Day on Sunday (November 1) at around 11 am.

This year’s theme was “Skilled Youth Will Build the Nation, Bangladesh for All.”

Referring to the initiatives of former President Ziaur Rahman, Dulu said various programmes had been undertaken to promote youth employment and skills development. Emphasis had been placed on providing training to young people to create employment opportunities both at home and abroad.

He added that youth development programmes had played an important role in reducing unemployment and helping young people become self-reliant.

The BNP leader further stressed the need to ensure proper training and employment opportunities for young people. He said utilising their skills and potential could reduce unemployment and accelerate the country’s economic development.

Among those present at the programme were Natore Deputy Commissioner Mosammat Sumoni Akter, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Asma Khatun, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development Golam Mahbub, District BNP Convener Rahim Newaz, Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad, Joint Conveners Mostafizur Rahman Shaheen and Saiful Islam Aftab, District Jubo Dal President A Hai Talukdar Dalim, and trainees of the Department of Youth Development.

Following the discussion meeting, loans totalling Tk 850,000 were distributed among seven young people. The guests later participated in a tree plantation programme.
