Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government, has departed for the United Kingdom on a four-day official visit.

His Emirates Airlines flight left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:30 PM on Monday, June 9.

Although the trip is officially a government visit, many observers believe that the key highlight is Dr. Yunus receiving the prestigious King Charles III Harmony Award. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka has also mentioned the possibility of a bilateral meeting with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, but the date and time for that meeting are yet to be finalized.

Earlier, on June 4, Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique stated in a press briefing that Dr. Yunus would be granted an audience with King Charles III and would hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

During the visit, Dr. Yunus is also expected to meet UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, other senior ministers, political leaders, and influential figures from the British business community.

Dr. Yunus has been nominated for the 2025 King Charles III Harmony Award in recognition of his global contributions. The award honors his lifelong efforts in promoting peace, sustainability, and harmony between people and the planet. The formal award ceremony will take place on June 12 at St. James’s Palace in London.
