A 4.5 caliber sniper nitro rifle equipped with a telescopic sight and silencer was recovered from the house of a young man named Sohan Mollah (26) in Kalia upazila of Narail. The joint forces carried out the operation, and Sohan is known in the area as a Chhatra League leader.

The recovery was confirmed in a press release sent to the media on Monday (June 9) by the Narail Army Camp.

The operation was conducted from midnight on Sunday (June 8) until 4 a.m. on Monday (June 9).

Sohan Mollah is the son of Abul Kalam Mollah from Purulia village and is a student at a college in Khulna. He used to introduce himself as a leader of Chhatra League.

According to the press release, the sniper rifle, which had a telescopic sight and silencer, was reportedly used to intimidate local residents. Based on intelligence surveillance, the joint operation was conducted by the Narail and Kalia army camps. During the raid, the army cordoned off Sohan’s home and recovered the firearm from under his bed.

Upon learning of the raid, Sohan and his father fled the house. As a result, the accused could not be arrested. The recovered firearm has been handed over to Kalia Police Station, and a case has been filed against Sohan Mollah.

Amirul Islam Moni, chairman of Ward No. 2 in Purulia Union, told Kalbela, “I know his father, but I don’t know Sohan well. I’ve heard he is involved with Chhatra League.”

Local ward member Md. Kobad said, “I’m not sure whether he is officially on any committee, but he used to introduce himself as a Chhatra League leader in the area.”

Kalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Al Mamun stated that the weapon has been handed over to the police by the army. Further investigation will be carried out, and necessary action will be taken based on instructions from higher authorities.
