Just as celebrations began to settle following Mohammedan’s long-awaited league title win, the club has now plunged into uncertainty and internal discord. Engineer Golam Mohammad Alamgir, the key architect behind the club’s recent footballing success and chairman of the football committee, submitted his resignation to the club president ahead of Eid. His unexpected decision has cast a shadow over preparations for the upcoming season, raising serious concerns about team formation and club stability.

Many within the Mohammedan camp believe that Alamgir’s leadership as club president could resolve the crisis. Club sources hint at discussions heading in that direction, although Alamgir has yet to make any public statement.

The new football season is set to kick off in September with the Challenge Cup. However, several players are still waiting on their full payments from the previous campaign. Under such conditions, forming a competitive squad for the next season has become a daunting task. The club’s technical committee—comprised of former star players—is scheduled to meet today to formulate a strategy. One committee member noted, “Planning alone isn’t enough anymore. We must act fast, or we’ll fall behind.”

Mohammedan’s financial operations largely depend on two individuals—Engineer Alamgir and the club’s current president, retired General Abdul Mubin. Without their contributions, managing team expenses and clearing player dues is nearly impossible, committee members admit.

Complicating matters further, the tenure of the club’s current executive committee has already expired. Multiple attempts to hold an Annual General Meeting and conduct elections have failed. Former director-in-charge Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and influential official Mahbubul Anam have been assigned interim responsibilities, but not without controversy. A significant portion of the club’s permanent members question Lokman’s prolonged dominance in decision-making despite limited on-field success. Many are actively working to ensure he doesn’t regain control through the upcoming election.

Rumors suggest that friction between Lokman and Alamgir over the next committee may have contributed to Alamgir’s resignation. His supporters even allege that a recent attempt to arrest him was politically motivated and orchestrated by rival factions within the club.

Efforts to reach Engineer Alamgir for comments have been unsuccessful. Amid these tensions, the technical committee remains focused on building a squad that lives up to fan expectations. But without prompt resolution of leadership disputes and financial uncertainties, Mohammedan’s hard-earned return to glory may be short-lived.
