Modern civilization is on a path of self-destruction, generating waste across the globe—stated Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the interim government. He made the remarks on Thursday (April 24) during a session held at auditorium B239 of Qatar University.

Speaking at the session titled “Building a World of Three Zeros: Zero Net Carbon Emissions, Zero Wealth Concentration, and Zero Unemployment,” Dr. Yunus said, “The civilization we are living in is self-destructive. It is producing waste on a global scale, which will eventually lead to our downfall.”

Following the session, Dr. Yunus held a bilateral meeting with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. Also present at the meeting were Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, National Security Advisor Dr. Khalilur Rahman, and SDG Chief Coordinator at the Chief Advisor’s Office, Lamia Morshed.

Earlier, in Qatar’s capital Doha, Dr. Yunus met with prominent international investors to discuss potential investment opportunities in Bangladesh. Attendees included the former Deputy Prime Minister of the Maldives, a member of the Malaysian royal family, a former Malaysian minister, a member of Qatar’s royal family, leading bankers, and successful Bangladeshi expatriates.

Dr. Yunus told investors that the interim government is committed to transforming Bangladesh into a productive and economic hub, welcoming all forms of foreign investment. “Bangladesh offers some of the most attractive investment opportunities in the region,” he said, expressing hope that the country will emerge as one of the world’s leading manufacturing nations.

Investors showed particular interest in sectors such as manufacturing, waste management, energy, banking, and tourism—especially in the resort zone of Cox’s Bazar. Dr. Yunus invited them to visit Bangladesh and engage in discussions with relevant investment authorities.

The visit and these high-level discussions are seen as significant steps toward strengthening Bangladesh’s sustainable development goals and global economic partnerships.
