Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami is set to hold a discussion with the National Consensus Commission today, Saturday, to present its views on political and structural reforms. The meeting will take place at 10:30 AM in the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building.
The Jamaat delegation will be led by Nayeb-e-Ameer and former Member of Parliament Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher. Following the meeting, the delegation is expected to brief the media in a press conference.
Earlier, on March 20, Jamaat-e-Islami submitted a written proposal to the commission, advocating for proportional representation in elections and the establishment of a bicameral parliament. The proposal also included recommendations for reforms in the Constitution, judiciary, civil administration, and the Election Commission.
At that time, Jamaat leaders emphasized that instead of focusing on a fixed election schedule, the government should ensure enough time to hold free and fair elections.
It is worth noting that the BNP has already held three rounds of meetings with the commission on similar reform issues.
