A school student was killed and two of his friends were injured in a motorcycle accident in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Friday. The accident occurred around 3:45 PM on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Baushia area.
The deceased, Md. Miraj (16), was a ninth-grade student at Gazaria Technical School and College and a resident of Alipura village in Bhoberchar Union. His injured friends have been identified as Sakib (15) and Rakib (16).
According to eyewitnesses, the three friends set out on a motorcycle trip from Alipura. While taking a U-turn from the Cumilla-bound lane to the Dhaka-bound lane near Manabe Water Park, an unidentified vehicle struck them, causing all three to be thrown off the bike and seriously injured.
Locals rushed them to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex. Due to the critical condition of Miraj, doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10:30 PM that night.
Shawkat Hossain, in-charge of the Bhoberchar Highway Police Outpost, confirmed the incident and said the vehicle responsible fled the scene. Legal proceedings regarding the accident are underway.
