The Awami League is stepping into the political field with a new strategy. Following a series of sudden street marches across the country, the party is now preparing for a large-scale rally under the banner of “Movement for a Free Palestine.”

The rally is scheduled to take place at Golapbagh field in the Saydabad area of Dhaka, with thousands of participants expected from the Awami League and its affiliated organizations.

Initially, the organizers sought permission to hold the event at Suhrawardy Udyan, but after failing to get police approval, the venue was shifted to Golapbagh. Despite the change in location, organizers have confirmed that the event will go ahead as planned.

The rally, being held to express solidarity with Palestine, is drawing participants from all across the country. Online campaigns, especially on Facebook and other platforms, are actively promoting the event. Former BCL (Bangladesh Chhatra League) General Secretary Zakir Hossain and a few other controversial figures are also expected to attend.

Law enforcement agencies are maintaining heightened vigilance around the event. Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Joint Commissioner of Intelligence, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, stated that strict measures will be taken if any attempt is made to create unrest.

Initially, the application for the rally was submitted on a letterhead of a party called Islami Front, but after being denied permission, the organizers opted to proceed under a different banner. Abdul Hakim, a member of the Movement for a Free Palestine, said they have received verbal approval to use Golapbagh field and that supporters from across the country are on their way to Dhaka.

Political analysts believe this rally is part of Awami League’s broader effort to re-establish its presence and influence, especially in the post-decline political landscape. They also suggest that groups like Islami Front may be aligning with the Awami League under the guise of the Palestine issue.

The rally has already become a focal point of political discussion nationwide, with many watching closely to see what impact it might have on the country’s political and social dynamics.
