Dhaka is set to host the ATJFB International Marathon in December 2025. The announcement came on Friday (April 25) following the successful completion of the ‘Beautiful Bangladesh Run 2025’ at Hatirjheel, organized by the Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB).

The event aimed to spotlight Bangladesh’s growing tourism potential on the global stage. The marathon kicked off at 6:00 AM from the Police Plaza point of Hatirjheel and concluded with a grand celebration at the amphitheater.

Distinguished guests at the event included Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board; Additional IGP Md. Mainul Hasan, chief of the Tourist Police; and ambassadors and diplomats from Nepal, the UAE, the Philippines, Brazil, Thailand, and other countries. Over 700 participants took part, including aviation and tourism professionals, travelers, and seasoned runners from home and abroad.

This year’s event featured two categories: a 7.5 km race and a 2 km fun run.
In the 7.5 km men’s category, Elahi Sardar came first, followed by Ashraful Alam in second place and Sazzad Hossain in third.
In the women’s division, Sadia Shawlin Sigma claimed the top spot, with Sworna and Farzana finishing second and third respectively.
Winners of the 2 km fun run were Jisan (first), Abhi Islam (second), and Zohurul (third).

The title sponsor of the event was Rhythm Group. Its Managing Director, Sohag Hossain, expressed his delight in being part of the initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting tourism-related efforts.

CEO of the Bangladesh Tourism Board, Abu Taher Mohammad Jaber, said, “This event will play a significant role in boosting the image of Bangladesh’s tourism sector.”

ATJFB President Tanjim Anwar added, “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiastic participation in our very first marathon. We are excited to announce a larger, international Winter Marathon this December and hope to have everyone’s continued support.”

Also speaking at the event were ATJFB General Secretary Baten Biplob and Chief Coordinator of the Beautiful Bangladesh Run 2025, Shafiullah Sumon.

After the race, winners were awarded prizes, and a raffle draw gifted five lucky participants round-trip tickets to Milan, Johannesburg, Bangkok, the Maldives, and Cox’s Bazar.
