Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, Vice Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has stated that the commission is moving swiftly toward finalizing a national charter.

He made the remarks on Saturday (April 26) during his opening speech at a meeting with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.

“We are at a historic juncture,” Dr. Riaz said. “We owe a great debt to the martyrs who made this opportunity possible. It is our responsibility to ensure this moment is not lost. Our goal is to build a Bangladesh where no one faces persecution or has to endure extrajudicial injustice. That vision is what guides our efforts.”

Reflecting on recent history, he said, “For the past 16 years, the country has been under severe authoritarian repression. During this time, members of Jamaat-e-Islami risked their lives in the struggle for democracy. Many were victims of both judicial and extrajudicial actions. Despite that, they remained courageous and continued their efforts. For that, we commend and thank them. They have our full support.”

Dr. Riaz emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami’s role in the resistance against fascism will be remembered. “As we move toward rebuilding the nation and establishing a truly democratic state, we expect your contribution to remain just as significant,” he added.
