Following instructions from the Maldives’ Homeland Security Ministry, the process of collecting information from foreign workers has been underway for nearly a year as part of a strategy to ensure their security. In line with this, Bangladesh’s Acting High Commissioner, Mohammad Sohel Parvez, has urged Bangladeshi expatriates in the Maldives to complete their biometric fingerprint submission.

According to local media reports, the Homeland Security Ministry of the Maldives has stated that any foreign workers who have not yet submitted their biometric data must do so by April 30. Providing biometric fingerprints is now mandatory for all foreign workers in the country. Those who fail to comply with the deadline will face expulsion.

Over the past year, multiple government teams have been working across Male, various island council offices, and resorts to collect biometric data. Both documented and undocumented foreign workers are required to participate in this process. Workers who fail to provide their biometric information will face punitive measures.

This is part of a large-scale initiative launched last year to collect biometric data, including photographs and fingerprints, from all foreign workers in the country. The initiative aims to address the issue of illegal immigration in the Maldives.

Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a final reminder to employers, urging them to ensure that their foreign workers complete their biometric registration by the end of the month. Employers who fail to update their workers’ biometric data within the given timeframe will be removed from the expatriate system and related services.

Leaders of the Bangladeshi community hope that the biometric data collection process will play a key role in resolving ongoing issues faced by expatriate workers.
