The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a major rally in Dhaka on May 2, demanding the trial of the Awami League, cancellation of its registration, and a complete ban on its political activities. The youth-led party has also decided to form a “Political Council” to strengthen and streamline its organizational structure.

These decisions were made during NCP’s fourth general meeting held on Saturday (April 26) at its temporary headquarters in Dhaka. The meeting was presided over by party convener Md. Nahid Islam and conducted by member secretary Akhter Hossain, with central leaders in attendance.

According to a press release, the newly formed Political Council will be responsible for all key policy decisions of the party. To implement the council’s decisions, an “Executive Council” will also be established.

The meeting also approved the formation of a Constitution Drafting Committee, consisting of five or more members. This team has been tasked with preparing a draft constitution within a week.

The press release further stated that NCP plans to hold protest rallies across the country demanding legal action against the Awami League. As part of this campaign, a city-wide demonstration will take place in Dhaka on May 2.

Notably, the party held a marathon nine-hour general meeting on April 19. When asked why another meeting was held so soon after, one leader explained on condition of anonymity, “We couldn’t cover all agendas or hear from everyone last time, so a follow-up meeting was necessary.”
